Symrise and Shan Foods open new Pakistan facility to support strategic partnership

Symrise has opened a new production facility in Pakistan, in partnership with Shan Foods, to support their ongoing collaboration.

The two companies announced their partnership in April 2023, aiming to deliver innovative taste solutions to local and global food brands.

This latest development in their collaboration will support key customers with speed to market, create new sustainable employment opportunities and see co-development of concepts for high-growth F&B categories, including seasonings, bouillons, processed meat, snacks and instant noodles.

Global flavours specialist Symrise has been operating in Pakistan for decades, and has reported double-digit growth year-on-year with its partners across the Middle East and Pakistan region.

Shan Foods is a multinational culinary brand specialising in spices and recipe mix solutions, with presence in over 75 countries including Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the UK.

In a statement announcing the new facility, Symrise said it will support the promotion of locally made solutions, reducing dependence on imported raw materials while providing high-quality products tailored to local and global markets.

The partnership and project are now operational, and capacity will be scaled to meet the needs of the local market and export markets in the coming years. The establishment of the facility is expected to cater to the multimillion-dollar savoury market in Pakistan, which is seeing double-digit growth.

Imran Sherani, co-chairperson at Shan Foods, commented: “The opening of this facility represents a significant step forward in our mission to enhance local production, leverage food science technology, and support Pakistan’s economy”.

For the second phase of the partnership, the two companies aim to tap into international markets with a particular focus to cater to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia markets.

Raheel Qadri, country head for Pakistan at Symrise, said: “The inauguration of this facility represents a new chapter in our partnership with Shan Foods and our dedication to Pakistan's food industry. This advanced facility will help us quickly bring high-quality, locally produced products to market, meeting the demand for innovation and authenticity, setting new industry standards together.”
