Kraft Heinz is expanding its Kraft Dinner brand into the dessert category for the first time with the launch of KD Mac & Cheesecake, a limited-edition sweet-and-savoury product rolling out through select Canadian bakeries.
The launch marks a significant brand extension for KD, transforming the familiar cheesy flavour of the classic boxed macaroni and cheese into a cheesecake format aimed at consumers seeking nostalgic and unconventional flavour experiences.
Available for a limited time, KD Mac & Cheesecake combines KD cheese seasoning with traditional cheesecake ingredients, incorporating the brand’s signature cheddar flavour into both the graham cracker crust and cheesecake filling.
According to Kraft Heinz, the dessert was developed in response to growing consumer interest in nostalgic food products and experimental flavour mashups, particularly among Gen Z and Millennial consumers.
Brian Neumann, head of brand and creativity at Kraft Heinz, said: “As Canada’s unofficial dish, KD has long been associated with dinner. This led us to ask ourselves, why should the unmistakable KD flavour be limited to dinner time?”
KD Mac & Cheesecake will be sold exclusively through a network of bakery partners across Canada, including SanRemo Bakery in Toronto, Les Délices Lafrenaie in Montréal, Goodies Bakeshop in Winnipeg and Ambrosial Cheesecake Shop and The Cheesecake Cafe in Calgary.
The product combines sweet and savoury flavour profiles in a move that aligns with continued innovation in indulgent dessert formats and experiential food offerings. Industry analysts have noted growing consumer appetite for products that blur traditional meal boundaries, particularly those tied to established comfort-food brands.
Kraft Heinz said the dessert is intended to encourage consumers to 'rethink when, where and how they enjoy KD,' as the company explores new ways to extend the relevance of one of Canada’s most recognisable packaged food brands.
