Raisio is placing health at the centre of its business by combining nutrition expertise, oat innovation and responsible practices. Its sustainability programme, Transformative Power of Food 2026-2030, sets out how the Finnish food company aims to support wellbeing and increase transparency across its value chain.

A long history in health and oats

Founded in 1939, Raisio specialises in food products and ingredients focused on health, wellbeing and taste. Its business includes high-quality oat ingredients, the premium oat brand Elovena and Benecol, whose cholesterol-lowering efficacy is scientifically proven. Raisio has also developed expertise in gluten-free oats for more than two decades and supplies gluten-free oat ingredients to food manufacturers.

Three themes guide the programme

Transformative Power of Food is organised around Sustainable Farming, Smart Use of Resources and Health Through Food. These themes guide Raisio's work to build a transparent and responsible value chain that creates value for consumers, farmers, customers and wider society. By integrating responsible practices into every stage of its operations, Raisio aims to make better food choices accessible, scalable and impactful.

Everyday foods can support better health

The rising prevalence of cardiovascular disease and obesity presents serious challenges for both public and private sectors. Everyday eating habits and the nutritional quality of widely available foods are closely connected to these issues, giving food companies an important role.

Raisio develops everyday food solutions that bring together scientifically proven health benefits and enjoyable taste. Its product development approach considers nutritional functionality alongside sensory quality and convenience, helping consumers make healthier choices as part of their normal routines.

Snacking as part of the solution

Changing lifestyles are reshaping traditional meal patterns, with many consumers eating smaller portions more frequently during the day. Raisio sees healthier snacking as a practical way to support consumer wellbeing within these changing routines. Nutrient-dense, satisfying and accessible options can make healthier choices easier, while small and consistent dietary improvements may bring long-term benefits for heart health.

Finnish oats provide a versatile foundation

Finnish oats grown in the northern climate are known for their high quality. Oats are rich in beta-glucan, a soluble fibre shown to lower cholesterol and support heart health*. They also provide slow-releasing energy that helps maintain satiety and stable blood sugar levels, both relevant to weight management and overall wellbeing.

Their nutritional profile and versatility make oats suitable for products ranging from snack bars to dairy alternatives. Raisio continues to invest in research and product development to deliver consistent quality, taste and proven functionality.

The company works with more than 700 local contract farmers, drawing on their knowledge to produce high-quality ingredients and improve transparency around climate targets. Raisio has also set short-term emission reduction targets in line with the Science Based Targets initiative**.

Turning commitments into everyday choices

As consumers look for greater transparency, functionality and authenticity, Raisio aims to develop products that meet changing expectations while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. The company's approach is based on a practical idea: long-term progress can be built through better everyday food choices.
