Cadbury recalls chocolate

Cadbury recalls chocolate

Cadbury has sent its chocolate outside China for testing, despite its milk (sourced from a Chinese dairy) being cleared of melamine contamination by the Chinese government.

Cadbury is adopting this cautious approach in light of the contamination affecting China, which has seen more than 10,000 children admitted to hospital and several deaths.

According to The Financial Times, Cadbury is the first multinational confectionery group to issue a recall linked with the melamine scandal.

Cadbury has revealed that preliminary results from its tests had "raised doubts" over the safety of 11 chocolate products, including Cadbury Eclairs, which are exported to Australia and Hong Kong.

The company has temporarily ceased production of chocolate in its Beijing factory while it investigates.
