Symrise upgrades China facilities to expand market reach and boost production capacity

Symrise upgrades China facilities to expand market reach and boost production capacity
Symrise has opened a new office and laboratory facility in Beijing, China, and has also completed its F&B powder blending expansion in Jinqiao, a district of Shanghai.

The new office and lab for F&B in Beijing will serve the growing consumer base within the area and is the result of a €1.5 million investment. It is set to enhance the firm’s R&D capabilities, customer proximity and market presence in the North of China.

The country's diverse and evolving tastes, which is driven by a rising middle class and increasing urbanisation, has led to stronger demand for beverages, dairy, culinary and snacks within China. By expanding its presence in the country, Symrise expects to cater to local preferences and swiftly respond to market trends.

The 800-square-metre facility includes specialised zones for beverage and dairy creation and applications, savoury creation and snacks and seasonings, each equipped with dedicated workstations and evaluation rooms. This will enable Symrise to develop products tailored to the market.

Walter Ribeiro, global president of food and beverage at Symrise, said: “China represents a crucial market for Symrise due to its dynamic and rapidly growing consumer base in food and beverage applications. As a logical consequence we have expanded our Beijing site to significantly enhance our R&D capabilities. With a focus on customer proximity and technical excellence, this facility will serve as a vital hub for innovation and customer collaboration.”

The facility also adds resources to the company's main lab in Shanghai, ensuring continuous support and resource optimisation, offering an improved working environment for the Symrise team, with modern amenities and a design that balances flexibility, efficiency and local cultural elements.

Robert Marti, VP North Asia, food and beverage at Symrise, added: “This strategic positioning enhances our ability to innovate and introduce new products tailored to Chinese consumers. It also strengthens our engagements with local food and beverage producers. As we continue to develop and optimise our offerings, both our customers and consumers will benefit from a broader range of high-quality products, leading to increased satisfaction and loyalty in this key region.”

Also this week, Symrise completed its F&B powder blending expansion in Jinqiao, Shanghai, set to enhance the company’s production capabilities and operational efficiency.

The Jinqiao powder blending expansion aligns with Symrise’s strategic goal to strengthen its position in the Chinese market. A newly installed blender in the seasoning plant upgrades the existing manufacturing capabilities and, among other new equipment, effectively increases and streamlines the production capacity of seasonings for the local market. This leads to improved efficiency and optimised manufacturing costs.

Ribeiro added: "This expansion project gives testament to our continuous focus on innovation and operational excellence. It positions us to optimally meet the demands of our F&B customers and strengthens our competitive edge in the market."

Kapil Sethia, president of food and beverage, APAC, at Symrise, concluded: "The successful completion of this project underscores our commitment to safety and efficiency, ensuring that we continue to deliver high-quality F&B products while adhering to the highest standards of operation”.
