UK meat alternatives brand Quorn is expanding its frozen offering with the launch of ‘Cheesy Nacho Nuggs,’ available now at Tesco.
The chicken-style nuggets are made with Quorn’s mycoprotein and are coated in a cheese-flavoured, tortilla-style crumb, seasoned with jalapeno for a nacho-inspired taste hit. The vegetarian nuggets contain egg and milk, so are not suitable for vegans.
Gill Riley, consumer director at Quorn Foods, said that the NPD is the “first-of-its-kind” and performed “exceptionally well” in consumer research, with 97% saying they thought the product was “new and different” and over two-thirds saying they “loved the concept”.
She commented: “Alongside being big on social media, fried chicken-style dishes remain popular in QSRs too. There’s a real appetite for crunchy bold flavours.”
“We’re incredibly proud of our chicken range. We know from our extensive sensory and scientific research that it’s some of the best in the market in terms of flavour and texture. Our new Quorn Cheesy Nacho Nuggs adds to the depth of our range which is already a big penetration and frequency driver for retailers.”
The Cheesy Nacho Nuggs launched in Tesco on 9 September, with an RRP of £2.50 per 240g. They will roll out in Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons stores in October.
