Sirio opens €16m full-service packaging facility in Germany

Sirio opens €16m full-service packaging facility in Germany

Sirio has invested €16 million in a dedicated packaging facility, with automated packaging lines, at its Pritzwalk campus near Berlin.

The new purpose-built facility features high-tech bottling and blistering lines, supporting bulk supply and private label options. The site enables Sirio to offer customers a complete end-to-end solution, from formulation development to final product packaging.

The facility is designed to ensure the seamless transfer of pharmaceutical and nutraceutical softgels from the adjacent manufacturing site. Both facilities operate under a unified pharmaceutical GMP standards regimen, which is approved for both human and veterinary medicinal products.

The new packaging lines are equipped with advanced process-control technologies, including a fully automated bottling line with robotic palletisation – these packaging lines guarantee rapid processing, with production-to-delivery times in as little as three weeks.

The facility's two new lines boost its production capabilities. The first, a high-speed bottling line with a customisable output of up to 5 million bottles per year, accommodates bottle sizes ranging from 75ml to 400ml. The second line, which can fill 20 million blister packs annually across ten blister formats, is tailored for both oval and oblong softgels.

The site’s overall bulk production capacity could reach 2 billion capsules per year.

Ensuring stringent quality control, the packaging lines are fitted with advanced visual inspection systems and in-line process control technologies. These systems monitor parameters including physical appearance, product weight and metal detection, and are so sensitive that one single capsule failure triggers an operator alert.

Sara Lesina, general manager of Sirio Europe & Americas, said: “We have grown significantly in recent years and, as a result, have doubled down on investing in advanced manufacturing technology. With our state-of-the-art packaging facility, we now offer full-service, pharmaceutical-grade softgel development in Germany. Our teams bring incredible experience, spanning over 30 years, and by completing everything from R&D to final packaging on a single site, we offer significant advantages to our customers, who benefit from pharma-grade quality at every phase of production."

The facility is supported by energy-saving heat pumps, energy recovery technology and solar panels.
